Traditional theatre and African dance
are infused together to tell the story of Cora, a young slave who
convinces Lucius, the plantation owner, to teach her to read. When
their relationship becomes something more and Cora is caught in a
romantic triangle, it disrupts the plantation's surface harmony.
Against the violent backdrop of the Nat Turner rebellion, everyone
involved is forced to make decisions that challenge their deepest
beliefs. |

What audiences are saying: |
"I saw this play on opening
night, and it was amazing. A play of deep and thought-provoking
themes, beautifully written and wonderfully acted. And the music
and dance absolutely add to the content, pulling us into the
period of the play. This is a must-see, one of the best I've
seen in some time." |
--Alicia, InFusion patron |
"This is an astonishingly
beautiful play. It received an extended standing ovation the
night I saw it. A tour de force." |
--Robert H., InFusion patron |
"This is a beautiful,
thought-provoking play... The production is riveting, with
nuanced complex performances by all. And the script is
wonderful. Lewis is a master of the subtly confounding, with
characters and situations that sneak up on you and wallop a
punch." |
--Jessica H., InFusion
patron |
"Brilliantly written, smart,
touching and real. It will take you down a creative journey
during a very dark piece of American History."

""I
came and saw [Creole] and was so incredibly moved and inspired
by what I saw. I moved to Chicago 7 months ago to continue my
acting career; I have seen many plays and readings since
arriving and many left me empty and a little concerned.
After seeing your production of "Creole" yesterday, I once again
believe in the power of quality theater. You have inspired me to
continue going forward with my acting because good work is out
there...you just have to be willing to look for it." |
--Kaela A., InFusion patron |
"We were delighted and
thrilled with the performance." |
--Cynthia H., InFusion patron |
